Philippe Tabet

Rada, Nota and Fushimi Lounge: the new pieces designed by Philippe Tabet for Pianca.

A bed, a set of case goods and an armchair with soft, inviting contours: the new pieces designed by Philippe Tabet feature oriental influences and flowing design. The pencil stroke traced out by the designer is still visible in their shapes: simple, soft lines, enriched by a range of elegant finishes, combinations of surface textures inspired by the waves on the sea or Japanese pictograms.

After designing the Fushimi series, the Esse chair and the Inari table, Philippe Tabet is working with Pianca once more, creating products with equally simple, clean design, which wholly capture the designer’s creative sensitivity and intense focus on materials.

Rada, Nota and Fushimi Lounge all have a distinctive style conceived to be inviting, shapes that emerge from a pen stroke and subtle texture contrasts. They reflect the French designer’s philosophy and they speak for their times.

“When I’m designing, I like to remove everything that can be considered superfluous”, says Tabet, who fosters a genuine passion for design. Sketching freehand with pencil on paper, he skilfully designs the character of a chair, depicting its unique story through its shape.

The Rada bed has an intimate, delicate profile and soft, inviting contours. The backwards-curving polyurethane headboard invites total relaxation and the structure concludes with metal feet that flow seamlessly from the curves of the bed. The subtle and natural contrast of materials sees a metal core combine with the bed base in cast aluminium, in a metallic or matt finish in black and white.

Nota is the collection of casegoods for the bedroom featuring a combination of wood and glass. The top extends over the structure, which curves gently outwards on both sides to support it, like a tray that appears to float. A stylish and functional open shelf detaches from the top of the drawers below. The collection is created in plywood, with a Piombo transparent glass top.

Fushimi Lounge is a reference to the Orient: in the new armchair Italian expertise meets Japanese style. A new interpretation of the Fushimi bed, the chair has a wood structure with a leather core section, invoking a new relationship between material and colour. The chair is in Canaletto walnut, but is also available in Rovere Naturale, Borgogna or Canaletto ash or open-pore Nero ash, with Hermes, Moro and Nero shades of leather.

The new Philippe Tabet products are on display in the new Pianca flagship store at Green Pea, the world’s first Green Retail Park dedicated to sustainability, in Turin. In the Pianca & Partners showroom in Milan, at 7N3, Via di Porta Tenaglia, the collections are presented in a dreamlike setting designed by Calvi Brambilla, featuring visions among opaque clouds and smoky shades.
