German Design Award 2024

Excellent craftsmanship, elegant and eye-catching design, trend-setting qualities: these traits won the favour of the international jury of the German Design Council

Conferred the “Excellent Product Design” award in the Furniture category, the Ella armchair has won the German Design Award 2024. Now at its 12th edition, this year too the competition was dedicated to the most innovative and competitive designs on the international scene. The German Design Council judges as “excellent” designs capable of meeting the current requirements of society through approaches that take into account various perspectives, sustainable and circular design processes and a production respectful of our planet’s resources and of the environment.

In other words, this acknowledgement is extremely significant, both for Pianca and for Pier Luigi Frighetto, the designer of Ella, an armchair with curvy, contemporary lines. In this armchair, refinement and comfort are in perfect harmony, as acknowledged by the German Design Awards jury that decreed: “Endowed with timeless elegance, Ella is comfortable and inviting. With its generous and softly padded shell it promises a special seating experience. This successful design is made even more eye-catching by its colours.”

The seat and backrest blend into a single, upholstered volume that offers the whole body its soft, wraparound support. For the contract market, this armchair is offered in a swivel version with a four-spoke base. On the other hand, the tubular steel base which supports and envelops the shell has been designed prevalently for domestic use.
